Welcome to the English Department at Brookfield High School! Our department is an inclusive community that celebrates all identities and backgrounds. We're here to help students not only become better readers and writers, but also to find their voice and tell their own story. We believe that strong literacy skills are the key to unlocking potential.
At Brookfield, we offer grade 9, 10, 11, and 12 English, as well as EPS3O (Presentation and Speaking Skills), ELS2O (Literacy Skills: Reading and Writing), and OLC4O (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course). For grade 11 English, all students in the OCDSB are required to take NBE (Contemporary Indigenous Voices). The Ontario English curriculum can be found HERE.
Most students take the OSSLT in their grade 10 year. Successful completion of the test is a graduation requirement. If students are not successful on their first attempt, school teams will support the student to ensure the requirement is met prior to graduation. More information about the OSSLT is available HERE.
