🧻🍕Unit 3:Food Sculpture

Description

Yes, that is the correct title of this Unit! This year we will make "food" sculptures from toilet paper.

The trick is to barely wet one side of the paper then let the water soak or seep into the toilet paper.

You can shape it, let dry, & when it dries it will hold its shape & can be painted.

So, LMS students are creating their favorite food! I hope that you are hungry!

Student Objectives

Students will explore artists that are inspired by the idea of food as art. (Claes Oldenburg, Peter Anton, and Wayne Thiebaud)
Students will explore how unconventional materials can be made into art.
Students will create a 3-D sculpture inspired by their favorite food/meal.
Students will evaluate their artwork and present their artist statement projects to peers.

1 roll of toilet paper

water bowl/ spray bottle

white glue

watercolor, craft, or acrylic paint

paint brushes, palette

Objective 3: Students will create a 3-D sculpture from in the style of Claes Oldenburg.

Plan your Food Sculpture.

This is like a brainstorming activity.

Collect as many photos of food as possible and add them into your table tops in this slideshow. The more photos that you have the better prepared you will be when you begin to make your sculpture. Realism is key!!

1) Watch the attached videos to see the techniques and materials that you may use to make your food sculpture.

2) Plan your Food Sculpture. Investigate photos of delicious food. Sketch it out!

3) You will have many choices of media and methods to create your Food Sculpture. CHOOSE THE ONES THAT ARE THE BEST FOR THE MATERIALS THAT YOU HAVE AT YOUR HOUSE.

4) Add final details that will make your food look incredibly delicious.

5) Arrange on a plate and take a photo! Turn it in attached to the Google Classroom assignment.

Through reflecting on their artistic intention and the impact of their work on an audience and on themselves, students become more aware of their own artistic development and the role that arts play in their lives and in the world.
