All residential students are strongly encouraged to pack lightly and only bring enough personal items to manage one trip into the building. Review our list of what to bring and what not to bring before packing your personal items.
Please be sure to complete the following:
Sign up for a move-in appointment. Fall residents will be required to register for a two-hour move-in appointment in order to be allowed entry to their residence hall.
Upload proof of vaccination. Residents must be in compliance with all NYU immunization requirements to enter NYU facilities. All NYU students are required to upload proof of immunization prior to arrival. For more information, visit the NYU Immunizations webpage.
Submit an NYU ID photo. New NYU students must upload a headshot of themselves to the NYU Card Center in order to be issued an NYU ID on move-in day.
Download the NYU Mobile App. Residents will find many helpful resources available in the NYU Mobile app.
Mail all packages to your permanent address. Packages cannot be accepted at residence halls before the resident has moved in. Packages that arrive before your check-in appointment will be returned to sender.
Review the University's curated list of businesses, including hardware stores, homeware shops, grocery stores, pharmacies, electronics retailers, and school supply stores, to help plan where to pick up anything you need once you arrive.
(August 23 and August 24)
Important Notes:
Paulson is located at 181 Mercer Street, at the corner of Mercer Street and Bleecker Street.
All students should arrive to check-in during the date and time they selected via their housing portal. Students who arrive outside of their confirmed move-in appointment will experience delays in retrieving their room key and entering the building.
The resident should be the one to check-in, sign their registration card, and pick up their keys. You will need to show a valid government-issued photo-ID to receive your NYU ID.
Check-In Process:
If arriving by car, you should plan to stop along Mercer Street. Do not stop on Bleecker Street, only Mercer. Note that these spots are meant for drop-off and unloading only and not long-term parking on move-in days.
From there, only the student that is checking-in will proceed into the Paulson lobby and line up at our registration table to retrieve their keys and sign their registration card. After this step, they will go back outside to reunite with their family and friends to bring their belongings into Paulson.
A move-in crew volunteer (with a purple shirt on) will likely already have joined your family and friends with a blue moving bin to load up belongings. Once belongings are loaded up, the driver of your vehicle will have to relocate to the nearest parking garage (of your choice) or other street parking (not Mercer Street or Bleecker Street).
Proceed into Paulson and to the elevator bank to get to the 6th floor, where the residence hall starts. Volunteers, Campus Safety Officers, and signage will guide you in the right direction. Please note that volunteers with blue bins must stay with their blue bin at all times. This is so that we do not lose track of bins and so that other students may be promptly assisted.
Residents should temporarily park their cars on Mercer Street only. Move-In Crew Volunteers will assist resident families in loading up blue moving bins while residents line up inside the lobby. As soon as belongings are loaded up in a bin, cars should pull out to a parking garage to make way for the next vehicle. Please follow the directions of any Campus Safety Officers or Move-In Volunteers.
Residents should line up in the main lobby to get their room key from the check-in table. Residents should be prepared to present a valid form of photo ID. Only residents should be in this line. No cars should be parked on Bleecker Street. Please park in a legal parking space or garage after unloading your belongings. NYU cannot reimburse you should you receive a parking violation.
Once a resident's blue moving bin is loaded up, our Move In Crew Volunteers will assist with wheeling it up to the resident's room via the lobby elevators. Volunteers must stay with their cart at all times, so we ask that residents please unload bins quickly so that volunteers may promptly assist the next resident.
Once you reach the 6th floor...
If you live on floors 8-13: you can take either elevator bank.
If you live on floors 14, 15, or 16:
Rooms ending in 00 - 04 must take the right elevator bank.
Rooms ending in 30 - 34 must take the left elevator bank.
Make sure you take the correct elevator bank, as it is the only elevator that services your floor.
We suggest residents keep their group to a maximum of three guests. Remember, move-in day is a very busy day and we prioritize using our elevators for individuals with carts/belongings.
On move-in day only, guests of residents will be given a wristband depending on the day they arrive. The wristband will only be valid for the day they arrive:
Purple/Pink Striped Wristband = Saturday Access Only (access to residence halls plus buildings with Welcome Weekend activities)
Purple/Blue Striped Wristband = Sunday Access Only (access to residence halls plus buildings with Welcome Weekend activities)
These wristbands will also get you into buildings with Welcome Weekend Activities. Please note that Solid Purple Wristbands will be distributed at the Kimmel Center (via the Skirball Center lobby) that give you access to buildings with Welcome Weekend activities, but NOT access to residence halls.
At 6:00PM, our turnstiles will be put back into place and our regular guest policy will be in place. Remember that outside (non-NYU guests must be registered in our JRNY system when the turnstiles are in place).
Curious what move-in day will look like? Have a look through our photo carousel of our 2023 move-in weekend to get an idea of the flow of the day! You can observe residents parking on Mercer Street, loading belongings in our provided blue bins, and picking up their room keys at our lobby check-in table! (Note: This, year, our check-in table will be closer to the Mercer Street entrance!)
Welcome Weekend is an opportunity for our new students to move into residence halls, while students and families alike can explore NYU’s campus and connect with representatives from various university departments. You’ll find key information to make the most of Welcome Weekend on this website.
