Xi Sun teaches 3rd grade at Jingmei Elementary School. Her class is a dual language mandarin program, with half heritage students and half non-heritage students. All the students started to learn Chinese since kindergarten.

All of her students have touch-screen laptops. Each class was equipped with 10 ipads. Her school use OneNote, Teams and Nearpod for remote teaching. Her class meet each day for three hours. Each class lasts for 40-60 minutes.

What worked well during remote teaching? What could've been improved?

We love the daily whole group check-in to get more connected with each other. We also work in small groups to have more differentiated teaching. The online platform OneNote our school uses is easy for students to find the resources.

It is not easy to engage all the students, especially the students who need more support. Don't spend too much time looking for the fancy technologies and platforms. I feel it is important to go to the basic and find ways to engage the most of the students.
