Unit Objectives

By the end of this unit, students will be able to: 

• Demonstrate advanced proficiency in sight reading, improvising, and transcribing rhythms incorporating all dotted 8th patterns and syncopation at the subdivision level in compound time.

• Sight sing and improvise melodies that include skips and leaps between chord tones in secondary dominant chords. 

• Aurally identify examples of secondary dominants and applied ii-V-I's in songs and transcribe the melody and chords for short excerpts that include these harmonies.
