Unit Objectives

By the end of this unit, students will be able to: 

• Aurally identify different types of phrase structure, including periods, sentences, 2-part, 3-part, and 4-part SRDC structure in popular music, and diagram the phrase structure using lowercase letters (e.g. a, a', b). 

• Aurally identify the overall form of a song as strophic or AABA and diagram the song using uppercase letters (e.g. A, A', B)

• Sight-read rhythms in simple meters that use beat note values other than a quarter note (e.g. 2/2, 3/8, 4/16).
