Northern Valley Regional High School District is a comprehensive school district that offers varying programs and opportunities beyond the traditional classroom setting. All students initiate their high school career with the status of “good standing”. The status is looked at through two lenses; disciplinary and academic. Students in good standing are afforded all opportunities or privileges provided by the high schools.
Good Disciplinary Standing
Good disciplinary standing refers to students who have consistently abided by the student code of conduct and student attendance guidelines. Students who are in good academic standing may take advantage of all applicable privileges including co/extra-curricular activities, off-campus privileges, etc. Should a student violate the code of conduct or attendance guidelines, privileges may be removed. (See BOE Policy 6145, Co-Curricular Activity, or Discipline Information Section for more information.)
Good Academic Standing
All students enrolled in Northern Valley Demarest/Old Tappan must be enrolled in and passing seven (7) academic credits with the exception of Cooperative Business Education (CBE) students who must be enrolled in and passing six (6) academic credits*. Anytime during the school year that a student is enrolled in six (6) or fewer (5 or fewer for students enrolled in CBE) academic credits and/or failing any of their courses, he/she will not be in good academic standing.
Good academic standing at the beginning of the school year for all grades, nine through 12, means successful completion of the previous year's requirements, with no failures.
Continuing good academic standing requires maintenance of passing grades in all subjects during the current year, and in grade 12 taking enough course credits to complete the high school graduation requirement by the end of the academic year.
Examples of actions that would lead to a removal of the status of “good standing” would be:
Continued tardiness or failure to complete outstanding detentions may result in a student being considered not in “good standing”, which will result in removal of additional privileges such as parking, class trips, network use, proms, graduation exercises, unassigned free time which can include lunch, etc.
Students who exceed 10 unexcused absences will be considered truant and not in good standing.
The administration may enforce any/all of the following consequences for students found not to be in good standing.

2. Termination of parking privileges. (At 24 Points or any suspension)
3. Assignment to a designated area in the media center during unassigned time or during lunch time.
