Reflection and Revision
The goal of our Reflection and Revision initiative is to support student learning. Each student’s learning path looks different, and our goal is to support them in mastering the standards throughout the year. Grades are a communication tool that provide a snapshot of student learning at a moment in time.
To that end, students will be given the opportunity to revise some graded work throughout the marking period as they work towards mastery of learning standards. This includes both assignments/assessments in their entirety or in part.
A student who scores an 85 or higher has demonstrated a significant understanding of the material that is being measured. Therefore, to be eligible for a revision process, a student must score 84 (B) or lower on the original assessment.
The ability to revise work is earned by the student in accordance with the established procedures. Teachers will use their discretion in the spirit of learning for mastery, and the decision to allow a student to revise or not must be evidence-based.
Students must be proactive in this process. They should submit to the teacher a request that includes a plan to study or relearn for the revision and this must be agreed to by the teacher.
As a component of the student’s plan they must create a timeline for completion, which means there is a date set by which time the revised work is submitted, or the original grade becomes permanent (typically no more than one week later.)
No revisions will be permitted during the last week of the grading period or after the grading period has ended.
