Throughout the past couple of weeks I have been beginning to think of how to innovate the modern hockey goalie. An idea I have thought of involves stick position. Goalies have to hold their sticks at an angle in order to redirect pucks into the netting behind them. Unfortunately, a modern goalie stick is not at a great angle, and when you hold it comfortably it is at an incorrect angle.
Another idea that I have involves the customizability of the goalie pads, because ordering custom pads can add $1,000-$1,500 to your order. I have an idea to add vinyl to your pads to create a look for your team. You would be able to pick a template that fits your pads, then pick your colors, logos, etc. then you are done.
This is Connor Hellebuyck, a professional goalie for the Winnipeg Jets. As you can see, his stick is at a more intense angle than his blocker allows him to hold while keeping his hand in position. My idea is to make a thin block to go over the stick, that corrects the angle made when holding the stick, to allow for proper stick position while keeping the blocker in position.
