"Snow to the South?"
Issued: 1/2/25 10:45 AM
Updated: 1/5/25 3:20 PM
Event: 1/6 5 AM - 1/6 11 PM
Rundown:
There has been a lot of talk about a snowstorm sweeping across the US. It will be close to our area on Monday, likely bringing us some snow. We now have some confidence on the track and such of this storm, Schedule impact now seems unlikely.
NWS Alerts & Forecast Info:
The local NWS office has been quiet on this coming system. That doesn't surprise me, considering new projections forecasting less than 1 inch of snow.
NWS Forecast info for Gouldsboro, PA...
I chose Gouldsboro because that's where I live and it's often an area that the district pays close attention to due to it's higher elevation and higher liklihood of bad road conditions. Now, here's what the forecast says.
Temps in the low 20's throughout the day
0.2" of snow between 6 AM and 1 PM.
0.3" of snow after that.
Model Data:
Data from the HRRR & RAP suggest our area could see 1-2" of snow. Other models, NAM, ECMWF, & GFS agree with the NWS forecast for less then 1" of snow. The main part of this system (with up to 2 feet of snow) should stay well to our South. Places like Baltimore, Wilmington, and Washington, DC will see the nasty parts of this system.
Schedule Impact:
T-Cork's snow day chances. See charts below! Schedule impact summary. This is the part you might wanna skip ahead to.
Commentary on forecast: It is a bit surprising to me that the models are having this much divergence this close to the storm's impact to our area. The timing doesn't really suggest one particular outcome to look for. We will likely know tomorrow morning by 5:30 AM if any other schools decide to do anything. I honestly can't see any impact from this with the high end snow fall forecast being 2."
Editor's note: Snow day prediction charts published here and across tcork77 social media showed a 10% chance of Snow Day, 10% chance of an Early Dismissal, and 80% chance of a regular day.
