"More Rain and Snow Midweek?"
Issued: 12/9/24 6:30 AM
Updated: 12/10/24 6 AM (SCHEDULE IMPACT BRIEF CANCELLED. WEATHER BRIEF STILL IN EFFECT)
Event: 12/10/24 10 PM - 12/12/24 4 AM*
*The timing of this event remains uncertain.Rundown:
Rain will be heavy throughout the day on Wednesday. Up to 3" of rain is possible with highs around 50. A cold front moves in after this, changing some of the precip on the tail end into snow. Previous model runs have shown more of the system being snow, but the latest data suggests snow accumulations that would result in schedule changes are unlikely.
NWS Alerts & Forecast Info:
The NWS has not yet issued any Watches, Warnings, or advisories for this system. As expected, the NWS in Binghamton has issued a brief. And, as predicted, their concern is how much rain we'll get. They highlight a level 1/5 (ISOLATED) risk of flash flooding. Any snow would be extremely unlikely to stick to such a wet ground, which is why the schedule impact brief has been cancelled.
Today, we can expect about a third of an inch of rain, with showers ending around 7 tonight. Some more showers can be expected tomorrow, with heavier rain arriving in the overnight hours. Rain will be heavy, with the North American Model suggesting 2-3.5 inches of rain accumulations.
Model Data:
Current model runs available here suggest little snow.
Schedule Impact:
Schedule impact summary. This is the part you might wanna skip ahead to.
Commentary on Schedule Impact Forecast: Due to high certainty in little to no snow accumulations and little to no chance of schedule impact, this brief has been cancelled.
