Rundown:
A low pressure system could bring accumulating some snow to our region on Thanksgiving Day. As of now, it does not appear that the storm will be nearly as crippling as the last. Accumulations will be relatively low, with high end forecasts topping out at 6". This brief is just to acknowledge the likelihood of showery wet snow on a day when many people could be traveling, especially for those traveling into the area from out of state. Higher elevations of the Poconos could experience "significant" impacts, where accumulations will be highest. Valley cities will not be impacted by this storm. For areas above 1500 feet, roads could be slick on Thursday. It is important to note that there is still a lot of uncertainty with this storm.
NWS Alerts & Forecast Details:
The National Weather Service has not yet put out anything for our area other than a Hazardous Weather Outlook. The Outlook does not specifically call for any amount of snow accumulation, emphasizing the uncertainty that remains. The NWS has put out a Winter Storm Watch for parts of Central NY that will get more snow.
Snow starts overnight, with accumulations of 2-4" expected overnight. From 8-10 AM, the snow will be more of a wintry mix with sleet mixing in with snow and rain. It will then continue to rain throughout the day, likely melting any snow that fell overnight. This weekend, it will get much colder. That's separate from this system, but just be ready for that.
Schedule Impact:
There will be no impact on the schedule considering the storm is occuring during Thanksgiving Break.
