I have been following politics since I was as young as 6 years old. This is the third presidential election that I have closely followed. Today, I'm taking the opportunity to congratulate the winners and unite the student body in the best interest of the community and nation at large.
First some congrats to...
Rob Bresnahan (R) who defeated Rep. Matt Cartwright (D) in the U.S. House. Cartwright was running for his 7th term.
Dave McCormick (R) who defeated Sen. Bob Casey (D) in the U.S. Senate. Casey is a Scranton native running for his 3rd 6-year term.
Fmr. President and President-elect Donald Trump (R) who defeated Vice President Kamala Harris (D) in the keystone state and the other swing states to win the Presidency.
All other local, state, and national officials who won their elections. Campaigning is a lot of hard work. My small operation for Student Council President in 2023 and Class President earlier this year cannot compare to the work put in by these candidates and their teams.
This release is not about politics and who should have won. While I disagree with some candidates and their policy proposals, I believe they will put their best effort forth to work for us in Washington and Harrisburg. The rhetoric that was used in the campaigning on all sides was, in many cases, damaging to democracy. I hope that it concludes as the final ballots are still being counted. This election was free and fair, although some places experienced horrible threats from Russia and other adversaries to democracy. We prevailed and chose our next leaders. I hope and have confidence that our newly elected leaders will do a great job preserving, protecting, and defending the constitution.
