"VERY HIGH WIND COMING WITH WINTER STORM THIS WEEK" -ISSUED 1/8/24 @ 7:30 AM (UPDATED 1/9 @ 8:30 AM)
Rundown:
First, I'd like to address the fact that I was indeed, wrong. I said that the storm that brought 8+ inches of snow to our area over the weekend was unlikely to impact the schedule due to the fact that it was over the weekend and plows would have time to clean up. We did, however, have a 2 hour delay on 1/8/24.
Now to the remainder of the rundown. The National Weather Service has issued a slew of wind alerts across the United States, with a Wind Advisory in effect for areas from New Hampshire to Florida and Oklahoma. In fact, as of 8:00 AM this morning, every state in the U.S. EXCEPT NORTH DAKOTA is under some type of watch, warning, or advisory, most of which is due to Winter Storm Finn* or Winter Storm Gerri.* Binghamton's NWS Office details that we could see sustained wind speeds up to 35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph. This comes with heavy rain and snow that has triggered a Flood Watch across Northeast Pennsylvania. We could see up to 2 inches of rain, on top of the snow from the weekend. The schedule is unlikely to be further impacted, but please stay safe, and Happy FID!
*Winter storms Finn and Gerri are named by The Weather Channel. The World Meteorological Organization, which names hurricanes, does not decide a list of names for winter storms. These names are only recognized by The Weather Channel and its partners. Official forecasts from the National Weather Service do not include names for storms.
