1/26: It's NFL Championship Sunday! Stay tuned for the Super Bowl Prediction Game, which comes out later this week! Bookmark T-Cork for updates.
As I'm sure you've heard, a potent snowstorm is coming to the Northeast this weekend. The latest snow total forecast looks like a healthy 8-12" of snow. 9" is the official NWS forecast for Gouldsboro. 8.4" for Moscow Travel impacts could be severe, so there is a Winter Storm Watch in effect from SATURDAY AFTERNOON through SUNDAY EVENING across Northeast PA. Because of the Saturday PM-Sunday morning timeframe of the storm, it is very unlikely that school will be affected. I'm putting the chance of a FID at just 20% right now, with a 20% chance of a 2 hour delay. That leaves a 60% chance that the roads will be plenty cleared by the time the busses head out for Monday's morning run. There is, however, another storm that will be coming in on Tuesday Morning that could bring more snow, then rain to our area.
As of now, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch, saying "Total snow accumulations 5 to 9 inches...Travel could be difficult...Pocono Mts. will receive highest snow." A recent map shows a 90% CHANCE OF MORE THAN 6." Snowy optimists should look at the high end forecast, which is up to about 12 inches. Officially 8-12" through Sunday PM. There is a 6% chance of seeing one foot or more.
Let's not forget about that storm on Tuesday, though. Tuesday's storm looks much stronger than the one for Saturday-Sunday, but it precipitation will fall mostly in the form of rain. There will be snow first, then the transition into mixed and rainy precipitation. I'd watch out for the potential of a 2 hour delay on TUESDAY. My official forecast calls for a 40% chance of a delay, but it will most likely have much higher confidence by Monday.
