Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut details the story of a soldier named Billy Pilgrim who tells his tragic experiences and events throughout World War II. Pilgrim conveys how he has the ability to time-travel into specific events in his life and demonstrates that there are other beings called Tralfamadorians. Throughout the book, Pilgrim, when describing his stories always uses "So it goes" with the purpose to exemplify the ideology that there is no difference between death and life.
In the summer of senior year, I was assigned to conduct an essay correlating to my personal thoughts on the novel, Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. The particular reason why I chose this artifact was that it was my first writing that correlated to the novel. It also demonstrates an essay where I had the ability to use the first person since I was critiquing the book, something that is not very common in writing essays.
Me and Sahara both conducted a poster demonstrating the body and mind map of the novel's main protagonist, Billy Pilgrim. With this, we could use our art skills and construct a body that resonated with Pilgrim; in addition, we drew symbols around the body to convey our deep understanding of the literature, with quotes surrounding the drawing. The reason why I chose this artifact is that it gives a different perspective of analysis where with symbols and prior knowledge, we were able to discuss the deepness of symbols in the novel correlating to Billy Pilgrim.
I conducted an essay that correlated a piece of a poem to the novel. In Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, the narrator utilizes distinct literature throughout each chapter to connect with the setting and the main protagonist to correlate to the active overarching message being described throughout the novel; anti-war with the exploitation of death in wars. The reason why I chose this artifact is that it conveyed a deeper understanding of the novel, where I had the ability to correlate a poem with Slaughterhouse-five demonstrating a profound interpretation.
