Middle School Outreach Program

Based on the successful, annual “Middle School Workshops” run by the NPHS Thespians, we would like to

expand this one-night event into a school-wide offering. Your NPHS organization is invited to participate with us

in meeting and working with incoming students from all 3 middle schools, and benefit from the amazing

connections and skill-building we have enjoyed for many years.

When is this event?

  • We hold this one-night event in January each year, usually the 3rd Friday of the month.
  • Time? 6-9 pm in the Auditorium and various classrooms.

What do the Thespians do?

  • At 6, we offer a pizza party to kick the night off (incoming students pay in advance), and then offer numerous

45-minute theater-related workshops that the 7-9th grade students register for in advance.

  • They sign up for three workshops, from 6:30-9:00pm. Our HS Thespians run the workshops with oversight from the staff.

What can MY organization do?

  • You can start simple – have a table in the cafeteria during the pizza dinner, and offer info to the students who are

interested in your organization.

  • Make contacts. Show off your talents. Hand out a flyer. Invite them to an upcoming event.
  • Or you jump in – offer (3) 45-minute workshops where 9 th graders can meet your group, make something or play a game with them, see a video or actual demo of what you do. This is a great time to show off and add them to your mailing list.

"It is our goal that all non-theater students will have ample workshops to choose

from to fill the 3-session limit that night."

Why would we want to participate?

  • This is a wonderful opportunity for your high school group to get 1-on-1 time with soon-to-be 10th

graders and build interest in your organization. While there is a time at the beginning of Sept. when

your group gets to set up a table and sign up new members, that can be a hectic, stressed time for new

students. Win them over during these more intimate and fun workshops, answer their questions, get

their email address for next year, and give them a friend to look for in the Fall!

  • Your HS students will gain leadership experience as they host and possibly mentor at these workshops.
  • The Thespians use participation in this evening to “earn activity points” in their organization. Does your group need

something like this?

How can we get involved?

  • Talk to your group and decide which option makes sense for you this year – a table or hosting workshops?

Choose your participation level:

  1. Table - determine what you will have to hand out and how you will man the table that night. Plan on a 1.5 hour commitment (5:30-7) to set up, host and clean up. Dinner for the hosts can be arranged through a pizza order.
  2. Workshops – plan on 1 workshop, offered 3 times that night. Then determine your workshop name, curriculum, student minimum, room needs, presenters, and materials, Plan on a 4-hr commitment (5:30-9:30 pm) for set-up, presenting, and materials.
