Order of operations (BEDMAS)

These videos show you how the order of operations work. When faced with a problem that has more than one operation in it (say 3 + 5 x 2) you need to know what to work out first.

Most importantly: always work through the high priority (like brackets) operations before low priority operations (like addition). If they are the same priority then work from left to right.

Once you have finished the video, complete the following worksheet OR these textbook exercises:

Fractions, decimals and percentages recap

This video introduces fractions, decimals and percentages. They are all different ways of writing the same number. Once you have finished the video, complete the digital worksheet and then try these textbook exercises:

Calculating percentage change

This video shows how to work out how much an amount has changed by, as a percent. Using the formula:

(New - Original) ÷ Original x 100

Increasing or decreasing an amount by a percentage

This video explains how to solve problems like: 

What is the price of a new t-shirt if the price tag says $80 and it is 20% off? Calculate that 20% of $80 is $16, then take $16 off $80 to get $64.

Original amount after a percentage change

This video explains how to calculate the original amount after something has been changed by a percentage. For example:

The school roll has increased by 15% since last year. It is currently 1200 people. What was the roll last year?
