Happy Monday!  With only 18 days of school remaining, the lure of summer is REAL!  Please help us help your student to continue to show up and show out academically and behaviorally...to prioritize  doing their very best each and every day of these precious few we have left!

Interim reports were sent home last Monday.  If you did not receive one, please find the report on HAC or email one of us, and we will make sure you get the information.

ATLAS Testing begins TOMORROW: Tuesday, May 7 and will continue through Wednesday, May 9!  Kids will take the reading portion of the test Tuesday, the math portion Wednesday, and the science portion Thursday.    Testing will go until 11:00 each day unless a student doesn't finish, in which case they will be pulled to complete that day's test in another locationSome ways you can help are: 1)Make sure your student gets to bed on time/early  2) Make sure they eat something for breakfast  3)Encourage them to do their very best  and 4)Make sure they are at school on time each day! (Kids begin going to their 1st period class at 8:00...Testing procedures will start promptly at 8:10.)

If your child is interested in playing sports for NLRMS 7th grade next year, we have lots of tryouts coming up in the next few weeks. You can see all of those tryout and clinic dates below. Please note that students must have an athletic physical on file to tryout for any sport, cheer, or dance.

We want to thank each of you for the many ways you support your student.  We APPRECIATE you...we notice what you do....your efforts big and small make a tremendous difference!   KEEP IT UP!!!

On our end, we rely on HAC, this newsletter, and 6th grade social media posts as means to communicate with you.  If these leave you with unanswered questions...reach out to us!  We welcome your emails, calls, notes, etc. and will be happy to get back with you!   Have a great week, everyone!

Check out some upcoming important dates/events below.

Important Dates

Updates from the classroom...

English Language Arts

In ELA, we are looking at the practice test for Atlas. The Reading/ELA Atlas test will be administered Tuesday, May 7. We will be reviewing for the “Wonderful Wizard of Oz” test which has been moved to Tuesday, May 14. This week, we will be viewing “The Wizard of Oz” to trace the plot.

Math

This week in math we will continue reviewing for the ATLAS test. The math portion is on Wednesday.

Science

This week in science, we are reviewing for the ATLAS test. The science portion is on Wednesday.

Social Studies

We will begin working on our last summative grade for the year:  An ad about either Athens or Sparta re: why one or the other would have been the best place to live.  Kids will be able to work alone or with a partner.  Their ad can be a brochure, on a poster, or done digitally.  They must use facts re: the geography, achievements, politics, economy, and social structure of whichever city-state they choose as "evidence" for their claim/ad.  There will be an oral presentation piece that is also part of this grade.  I'm reviewing the information with them this week...probably through Wed...and they should be able to begin their ad by Thursday.  Right now, I think the whole thing should be wrapped up by Wednesday, May 15, but that date may change depending on how much we get done this week....with shortened classes necessitated by ATLAS testing.  Kids will know if the date changes, and I will also make sure you know in this very same blurb spot next week!

Want to stay up to date on grades?

We highly encourage parents to make a habit out of checking the Home Access Center weekly. Students are required to do this weekly but, if parents do this, too, home and school are on the same page and no one gets a "surprise" at interim or at the end of a 9 weeks.   GradeWay is an app that communicates with HAC.  A number of parents in recent years have begun downloading this app to their phones and/or tablets, and have found it to be both an easy and convenient way to keep up with their child's grades, missing assignments, and to email teachers with questions or concerns.  You may find this a useful tool, as well.
