Team Information

Hello team!

This week is our ATLAS (state) testing for sixth grade. Please make sure your child is at school on time (by 8:00 AM) each day of testing. We will take one test each day:

Testing will continue until approximately 11:00 each day. However, if a student is not finished at that time they will be relocated to a quite place to finish at their own pace.

Although this test is a "snapshot" in time of student performance, and DOES NOT define our students, we do want them to show up and try their best. Please encourage your child to get a good night's sleep each night, eat a healthy breakfast, and to just show up and do their very best work! We know that they are ready and will do well if they simply try their best! We've got this!!  Please read the below letter from Mr. Clark.

This week is also Staff Appreciation week! If you see any staff members around or have a spare minute, give them a shout to tell them thanks for all they do throughout the year! I know we are super thankful for all of our staff members, from administration, to campus security, to our fellow teachers, and custodians! THANK YOU to a great team!

If you aren't paying attention to the important dates, we have A LOT going on right now and in the next few weeks! Athletic tryouts for next year, a dance coming up, end of the year field trips and field day, and of course, state testing! Please be sure to reach out if you have any questions!

Updates from the classroom...

English Language Arts

Students will continue our unit on imagination. We will then be reading from the Wizard of Oz.  Students will then compare the reading to the movie culminating in a project.

Please check your child's grade regularly for updates.  If you have any questions regarding grades, please don't hesitate to email for me clarification.

Math

Please encourage your students to complete work on time.  They have plenty of time to complete assignments in class each day if they are using their time wisely.  Work not completed in class should be done at home as HOMEWORK.  No student should have an abundance of late work that needs to be completed.

Science

We will continue our unit on weather, specifically how thermal energy influences weather patterns around the Earth. This week's focus is percipitation!

Social Studies

We have started on our advertisement project for Sparta vs Athens. It will count as a final test grade for the unit. they are allowed to do the project in almost any form they choose, as a slide show, poster, brochure, song, rap, or any creative project they clear with me.

Want to stay up to date with grades?

We highly encourage parents to make a habit out of checking the Home Access Center weekly. It is the responsibility of the parents and students to stay aware of their progress in their courses.  GradeWay is an app you can add to your phone or tablet that will make this very easy to do! It communicates with HAC and makes it easy to check up on grades, missing assignments, and email teachers when you have questions or concerns.

Click Here to learn more or download the app: GradeWay

**You will need your Home Access Center (HAC) login to access your account. All students were given a letter to bring home with HAC logins last week! Choose the link with a 23 in it for NLRSD**

A note about teaming: Our students are teamed with their four core subjects, English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, whenever possible.  Teams allow us to create a school within a school environment for our students, making our large campus feel smaller. Reading and electives are cross teamed to allow us to meet the vast needs of our students, as well as to allow more social interactions with other students.  All of our core departments work closely together to ensure students receive quality instruction regardless of their team.
