PERSONALIZED LEARNING REQUIREMENTS:
Education Plan and Profile - The Education Plan and Profile (EPP) documents an individual learner’s academic and career goals, planning, achievements and related experiences based upon a comprehensive series of career awareness and exploration activities. It serves as a road map to guide student learning throughout their middle and high school education and into their lives after high school. It is a dynamic and ever-changing collection of a student's interests, aptitudes, course-taking, work samples, certifications, awards and personal reflections.
Career-Related Learning Experiences - Students participate in experiences that are designed to be a bridge between a student’s high school learning experience and their personal interests, goals, and future career plans. This includes things like Job shadows, workplace/industry field trips, guest speakers, school-based enterprises, service learning, work experience, internships, workshops, camps, college events, extracurricular activities or events, etc.
Extended Application - The student portfolio should demonstrate how students have applied and extended their knowledge in new and complex situations related to the student’s personal and/or career interests and post-high school goals through critical thinking, problem solving, or inquiry in real world contexts. Progress on thier portfolio is shared during spring SLC's.
EARLY GRADUATION POLICY AND GUIDELINES
District Policy states:
Early graduation can be earned provided that:
1. The student presents in writing an early graduation program no later than the end of the sophomore year;
2. A review committee (made up of two staff members who know the student, a counselor and administrator) will be established to determine if the request represents mature and reasonable judgment;
3. The parents and principal agree that early graduation would be in the best interest of the student.
Should early graduation be granted, the student will be allowed to take either college courses or an independent study course together with the regular course load to complete requirements for graduation. The college course or independent study course must be approved by the committee.
Graduation Requirements:
1. Credits as required for your cohort class.
2. Meeting of essential skills benchmarks and extended application as required by the state for your cohort class.
Early Graduation Request Procedures:
1. Complete the Early Graduation Request Form and attach all required documents no later than end of the sophomore year.
2. Meet with Counselor to complete a credit analysis and suggested schedule plan.
3. Counselor sets up committee to review. (Review committee made up of two teachers, counselor and principal)
4. Principal will notify you of committee decision.
The decision to graduate early should not be taken lightly. We encourage you to consider all alternatives and the possible consequences of this choice before continuing on with this process. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, please contact the guidance counselor.
Costs incurred outside of the normally provided school schedule and practices will be the responsibility of the student.
Delayed graduation is affected when:
1. Students in good standing who have less than the required number of credits after four years of attendance will be allowed to return for a fifth year to obtain the necessary credits for the general high school diploma.
2. Fifth-year students may petition to take courses through a community college or four-year college and upon satisfactory completion, may be granted a diploma.
a. All such courses must have prior approval of the review committee composed of the counselor and staff member teaching in the subject area.
b. Students under 18 years of age must have approval of their parent/guardian and the principal.
c. Students over 18 years of age must have approval of the principal.
d. All credits earned must be received by the principal before May 15 of that 5th year.
