In Grade 6, instructional time focuses on four critical areas: (Q1) Solidifying & extending operations with fractions, decimals, and percentages; Connecting proportional relationships to ratios and graphing (Q2) Using rate and measurement conversion to explore consumer math (Q3) Using logic to derive area and volume formulas of geometric figures (Q4) Developing understanding of statistical thinking.

Unit 1: Quarter 1 Concepts

Students will learn about factors and multiples.
Students will learn about operations with fractions.
Students will learn about operations with decimals.
Students will learn about operations with percentages.
Students will learn about ratios and proportional reasoning.
Students will learn about graphing with proportional reasoning.

Unit 2: Quarter 2 Concepts

Students will learn about measurement systems and conversions.
Students will learn about consumer math and financial literacy:

Tax, Tip, Mark-Up, Discount
Simple Interest
Simple Banking

Unit 3: Quarter 3 Concepts

Students will learn about polygons and coordinate planes.
Students will learn about deriving area formulas for polygons.
Students will learn about solving problems using the surface area for geometric shapes.
Students will learn about deriving volume formulas for geometric shapes.
Students will learn about area and circumference of circles

Unit 4: Quarter 4 Concepts

Students will learn about data and graphs.
Pictographs, Line Charts, Frequency Charts, Histograms, Stem & Leaf Plots, Box Plots
Students will learn about statistical thinking.
