The Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) common data model is an international open community standard, designed to standardise the structure and content of observational data. Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust (LTH) has chosen the OMOP model to link its own data, and Quin Ashcroft, as a data scientist working at LTH, developed methods to transform existing data from multiple sources into a single OMOP database.
Quin introduces OMOP, and explains how LTH developed a small team testing different methods to enable their data to be standardised - improving operational performance and enabling access to health data for research.
