Color can enhance the quality of design, but proper usage is essential for building a consistent and clean visual representation.
The LMS course color palettes use the complementary color palette as outlined in the NICC Marketing Department’s Graphic Standards & Brand Guidelines.
Color should not be used as the sole indicator of meaning. Our palettes have been selected for consistency and optimized for contrast and readability. Instructors must ensure there is sufficient contrast between background and foreground colors.
Note that the Brightspace Editor has a built-in Accessibility Checker that can assist you with choosing accessible text colors (instructors can also use WebAIM to test color and contrast accessibility).
When choosing colors to use in your courses, we recommend the following:
Choose accessible colors (high contrast).
Use color sparingly, only to highlight important information.
Choose 2-3 complementary colors to use throughout a course.
Use the color wheel to create a color scheme. Pick a starting color and then choose one or two colors near or across from that color. These will work well together.
Blue and Gold are the signature colors by which we are identified as Northeast Iowa Community College.
Incorporating our Signature Colors into materials connect your piece to the College brand. To ensure consistency and protect our Signature Color Palette, be sure to use the proper specifications and consider a generous use of white space.
