Priority Maintenance

The 2018 Bond Package included priority maintenance projects that would provide needed renovations and repairs at nearly all the district's facilities. By including these projects – totaling nearly $14.86 million – a similar amount of money would be freed up over the coming years in the district's Maintenance & Operations budget.

Many of these priority maintenance projects would replace or upgrade existing HVAC systems. Other projects included needed upgrades to aging water systems supplying campuses, such as Thomas J. Rusk Elementary and Raguet Elementary.

A number of these projects were completed during Summer 2019 and more projects were wrapped up in Summer 2020, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

See below for a list of projects that have been finished as well as jobs still to be completed.

A number of priority maintenance projects were also funded by the 2018 bond. Next month, while NISD students and staff are on spring break, asbestos abatement at Thomas J. Rusk Elementary will take place ahead of the planned replacement of the building’s HVAC system that will take place this summer.

Other priority maintenance projects funded by the fund and already completed include:

•Replacement of HVAC units for classrooms at Mike Moses Middle School.

•Replacement of all HVAC units and water supply manifold at Raguet Elementary.

•Installation of new sound and lighting systems in the auditorium at Thomas J. Rusk Elementary and replumbing of kitchen and main water lines into the building.
