PE Waiver for Athletic Participation
In accordance with RCW 28A.05.040, high school students may be granted a waiver for Physical Education for participation in a directed athletic programs of the District. Students petitioning for such a waiver must pick up a form in the counselor’s office and must adhere to the following guidelines:
Only 1 credit of the 1.5 credits required may be waived.
The PE waiver must be turned into the high school counselor.
The student must have participated in athletics for three sports seasons. A student injured in athletics will receive special consideration.
Students who fail to complete the seasons in athletics, or who are ruled ineligible for athletics in accordance with WIAA and the District eligibility rules shall lose their waiver and have to make up the PE credit.
The counselor shall be responsible for entering the proper documentation in the student’s file to meet graduation requirements.
A waived PE credit releases the student from 1 PE credit requirement but does not award credit toward graduation requirements.
Students can get PE Waiver applications from their counselor.

Soccer/Volleyball PED341-342

This course is designed for the student who wants to become better soccer and volleyball player through competition. Daily drills will help each individual develop and improve fundamental game skills as well as the incorporation of team concepts through competition. Games and practice drills will be very competitive. Approximately 75% of the course will be planning both indoor and outdoor soccer games and practice drills. The remainder of the course will include weekly fitness assessments and the development of individual/team volleyball skills. Daily participation, proper dress, and attendance will determine a student’s final grade.

This class is designed to bring together students with and without disabilities, allowing them to participate in sports, fitness activities, and leadership development opportunities on an equal playing field, fostering an inclusive environment while focusing on the physical, intellectual, and social growth of all participants; primarily based on Special Olympics standards and national physical education guidelines.
Lifetime Fitness PED486-487

A co-ed elective course designed to improve the capacity of the cardiovascular system through cross-training activities. These include walking, jogging, interval training, step aerobics, strength and endurance weight training, and targeted muscle toning. The course places an emphasis toward the individual student by calculating cardiovascular Target Heart Rate Zones (THRZ), setting personal fitness goals, and accessing nutritional needs. Daily participation, proper dress, and attendance will determine a student’s final grade.
Walking Fitness PED476/477

Prerequisite: Passing grade in Basic PE or Dr. note stating student is unable to participate in sport or high intensity activities.
This course is designed for the student that wants to improve their overall fitness level through walking and other fitness activities. A secondary objective of this class is develop student knowledge about the general health and fitness benefits that walking and other activities can provide for a lifetime. Walking will be outside on most days except for extreme inclement weather. Daily participation, proper dres, and attendance will determine a student’s final grade.
Weight Training & Conditioning PED497-498

This elective course is designed to improve muscular and cardiovascular strength and endurance. Basic instruction will include safety, technique, and various methods of weight training. Enrollment priority will be given to seniors first, juniors next, then sophomores, and finally eligible freshman. Daily participation, proper dress, and attendance will determine a student’s final grade.
