At CHS, our grades are not weighted. In computing the non-weighted grade point average, all courses are considered. To compute the non-weighted GPA, the percentages earned are converted to a 4.0 scale, added together, and then divided by the total number of credits.
Student rank is reported using exact ranking. For example, a student's rank is reported as 24 out of 174, not using the percentile (top 10%, top 25%, etc.).
Valedictorian Criteria
Subject to the criteria set forth below, Valedictorian honors are awarded to the Connell High
School graduating senior (s) with the highest cumulative grade point average. Salutatorian (s)
honors are awarded to the graduating senior (s) with the next highest cumulative grade point
average. In addition, the following criteria must be met either through classes taken at Connell
High School or through the Running Start Program:

For class taken through the Running Start Program: students must complete 7 credits during 11th grade and 5 credits by the end of Winter Quarter of their 12th grade year.
Any credits used to calculate GPA must be earned the first time the course is taken.

The Honor Awards (Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and Honor Cords) will be calculated at the end of the first semester of senior year. (Students selected for an award at the end of first semester who do not meet academic standards during second semester will have their award revoked.)
It is the responsibility of the student to choose the classes and complete the requirements necessary to be Valedictorian or Salutatorian.
