Special Education

For Students with an IEP

The special education department offers English Concepts and Math Concepts classes. These are small classes offered only to students with IEPs who are not able to meet the expectation in the general education classroom with or without support. Placement in these classes is determined by the IEP team and case manager.

The following elective courses are only for students with IEP’s. Please discuss these courses with your case manager if interested.

Work Training and Careers (WoTaC) - (#499)

2 Credits

Work Training and Careers is a course for junior and senior students with an IEP. Students will participate in a combination of classroom and work site training. They will participate in career surveys, resume writing, learning job expectations and improving social thinking skills. Guest speakers and field trips will also be components of the class. The goal of this course is to prepare students to be productive members of the work force.

Community Integration and Service Learning (CISL) - (#498)

1 Credit (Sem) or 2 Credits (Yr)

The CISL program is designed for grade 9-12 students with intellectual disabilities at Horace Mann High School. As the name implies, the goal of the program is to get students out of the classroom and into the community where they will perform volunteer and service learning activities at places of work and community centers throughout the greater Fond du Lac area. Through hands-on experiences in the real world, students with intellectual disabilities are better able to understand the world around them and begin to find their own path with respect to post-secondary transition options.
