Oriole Band - (#100)

Grade 9
1 Credit

Open to students in ninth grade; this class is designed for musical growth through skill practice and performance. Students in Oriole Band will perform a variety of music as well as learn about composers, musical styles, historical aspects of music and music theory. Participation is required in small group lessons, marching band, parade performances, football and basketball games, as well as Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and Strizek Concert. Solo-ensemble participation is encouraged, but not required.

Symphonic Band - (#101)

Grade 10, 11 and 12
1 Credit

Open to students in tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades; this class is designed for musical growth through skill practice and performance. Students in Symphonic Band will perform a variety of music as well as learn about composers, musical styles, historical aspects of music and music theory. Participation is required in small group lessons, marching band, parade performances, football and basketball games, as well as Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and Strizek Concert. Solo-ensemble participation is encouraged, but not required.

Concert Choir - (#102)

Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12
1 Credit

This group is open to students that have a passion and desire to participate in group singing, prior singing experience is preferred. Voice lessons will be required as well as participation in all 4 graded concert performances each semester. Solo ensemble participation is encouraged but not required. Expectations include: Participation in all required concerts each semester, weekly lessons, attendance and daily participation in classes while rehearsing.

Jazz Band - (#103)

Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12
1 Credit

This class will explore the many jazz styles including, but not limited to blues, latin, rock, and swing. Students will learn about the fundamentals of improvisation as well as the history of jazz. Participation is required in small group lessons, marching band, parade performances, football and basketball games, the Jazz Chili Supper, Solo and Ensemble, various outside of school clinic experiences, Top 10 Dinner, Winter Concert, and Strizek Concert.

Survey of Music History - (#105)

(Formerly Pop Music History)
Grades 11 and 12
½ Credit

Students in this course will explore the various time periods in music history and discuss how music has evolved over time. Through discussion, performances, and group work students will learn about the different genres, styles, and periods of music and the effect music has had on history, the world, and present day.
