COLLEGE PLACEMENT TESTING - EARN FREE COLLEGE CREDITS! 
To ensure proper placement in college Spanish classes, most colleges offer a free placement test. Students that enroll in a college Spanish class and earn an acceptable grade will earn credits for all preceding courses. There is an opportunity to receive 3-16 FREE college credits 

Spanish 1 - (#081) 

Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12
1 Credit 

This novice level course is an introduction to the Spanish language and cultures. It emphasizes high frequency vocabulary and fundamental grammar utilized in reading, writing and conversing. This course is for new Spanish language learners who do not have prior Spanish language experience.

Spanish 2 - (#082) 

Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12
1 Credit
Prerequisite: Suggested grade of C or higher in Spanish 1 

This novice mid to novice high level course will further develop reading, writing, and conversing skills. Study of culture, music and traditions will be incorporated.  The primary goal of this class is to increase the student’s vocabulary and expand the use of grammar to include the past tenses.

Spanish 3 - (#083) 

Grades 10, 11 and 12
1 Credit
Prerequisite: Suggested grade of C or higher in Spanish 2 

This intermediate level course will promote continued vocabulary and grammar acquisition.  Students will be exposed to the Hispanic cultures through stories, songs and novels.  Reading will be an important component of Spanish 3.  The primary goals of this class are to encourage students to communicate in Spanish in interpersonal situations, to increase confidence with the language and to be able to read independently.

Spanish 4 - (#085) 

Grade 11 and 12
1 Credit
Prerequisite: Suggested grade of C or higher in Spanish 3 

This intermediate level course will build on language acquired in Spanish 1-3. Students will continue to develop skills in speaking, listening, writing and reading. In addition, students will explore various Hispanic cultures. The primary goal of this class is to advance the student’s proficiency in interpersonal and presentational situations.

Spanish 5 - (#086) 

Grade 12
1 Credit
Prerequisite: Suggested grade of C or higher in Spanish 4 

This intermediate to advanced level course will focus on increasing the level of proficiency in the areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Hispanic cultural topics will be studied through music, movies, novels and stories. The primary goal of this course is to prepare students to succeed on the college placement test, thrive in college Spanish courses and promote a desire to use their language in the community (locally and globally).

Español para los Hispanohablantes I y II - (#087) 

(Spanish for Spanish speakers)

Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12

1 credit

Prerequisite: Native or Heritage Spanish Speaker (and teacher recommendation)


This course is for Hispanic students who speak Spanish fluently and would like to improve their reading and writing skills. Students may enroll in this class for two consecutive years to receive two Spanish elective credits.  The primary component of this class is reading. Students will read independently in Spanish daily. Additional topics include writing conventions, vocabulary, grammar, and the study of the Hispanic countries, specifically related to geography, music, holidays and history.
