We are really pleased to have 'soft' started some of our music ensembles and CCA's already. Due to the high volume of numbers in some of our groups we have decided to align these with the CCA calendar; allowing 3 rotations per year rather than 2 and therefore more learners can enjoy participating. These include; Podcast, Primary Rock bands, Y2 Beginner Violins, Year 1-3 Ukulele, Beginner Woodwind, Beginner Brass, Percussion Club. These will start on September 11th. Those learners who have not secured a slot this season will have the opportunity to participate in season 2 or 3.
For those learners currently in: Y2 Beginner Violins, Year 1-3 Ukulele, Beginner Woodwind, Beginner Brass, Percussion Club. After the CCA Season 1 has finished, you will have the option to pursue lessons on your instrument with one of our instrumental tutors at Nexus (this is an additional cost) plus the opportunity to move into either our Primary Orchestra or Primary Band (which will be starting later in the 2023/2024 school year) or the Intermediate Percussion Club or Intermediate Ukulele Group. The beginner ensembles have been very popular and we want to provide the opportunity for as many learners as possible to try learning an instrument. The growth of the school has resulted in the need for these changes because with our current structure, we are simply unable to accommodate the majority of learners who would like to learn an instrument through our ensemble program.
Please kindly note that Year 1-2 Singing Stars and Year 3-4 Choir are completely full and we are unable to accept any other learners into either of these ensembles.
Following feedback from our Secondary learners we are going to start an Advanced Piano/Keyboard Club. This will be for anyone at Grade 6 and above standard and will run during the school day. If any learner wishes to join please email lambert.c@nexus.edu.sg to express interest and attach your most recent examination certificate.
Towards the end of last academic year our music department opened it brand new Music Tech Suite. This is an exciting and innovative facility with top of the range MAC's all complete with midi keyboards, audio interfaces and with an interlinked communication system. Having seen many music departments across Singapore and Asia we now have one of the most advanced and well resourced music departments there is.
This exciting new development is enabling our IGCSE and IB learners to further develop their musicianship skills to a higher level. Building on this years outstanding results. Learners in Secondary and upper Primary will also be participating in units that develop their music technology skills. For example in the photos below Year 8 are getting to grips with using the software 'Logic Pro' to create their own samples, record, edit and manipulate tracks and structuring them into a remix of a famous song. Year 7 last year were introduced to the software 'Sibelius' that allows our learners to write their own music to a professional level.
