Well done to our Year 13 learners who just completed their Theory Of Knowledge (TOK) Exhibitions. TOK is a CORE part of the IB Diploma Programme and is a subject that really challenges our learners to think critically about knowledge! They presented exhibitions on questions such as 'To what extent is certainty attainable?' and 'Should some knowledge not be sought on ethical grounds?' They presented their exhibitions to the Y12 learners and hopefully it was a great introduction to TOK!
Our Y12 learners have made a really positive start to the IB Diploma Programme. They got really involved in the induction activities at the start of the year and are now settling down to their studies. We are looking forward to working with you over the next two years.
Year 13 Parents and Guardians
As Careers and University Counsellors, we wanted to take this opportunity to reach out to you at the beginning of Term 1 to provide you with an overview of key dates pertaining to university applications for your child in their final year at Nexus International School Singapore.
University guidance for your child began in Year 9 and will continue throughout Year 13. Each week we will hold university sessions with the whole year group on Friday mornings during tutor time. These sessions are an excellent opportunity for collaboration and discussions about application processes, key deadlines and any other information regarding ‘Life After Nexus’ for our learners. Additionally, we will begin 1:1 meetings with all Year 13 learners next week to discuss their progress using both Unifrog and their individual university planners (set over the summer holidays). Please ask your child or ward to share this document with you so that you can be involved in this process too.
Learners are required to request transcripts and letters of recommendation at least two weeks before their internal university deadline. We set internal deadlines ahead of official university deadlines to ensure that all applications are finalised on time and completed to a high standard. Therefore we would like to make you aware of certain deadlines related to University applications that have been shared with the learners:
US Early Decision Applications required internally by 6th October 2023.
UCAS Applications required internally by 11th December 2023.
US Early Action Applications required internally by 11th December 2023.
Canadian Applications required internally by 11th December 2023 or before, depending on university.
All other destinations will have different deadlines. Your child is responsible for keeping track of these dates.
More information will be made available soon about an upcoming Lion City Fair which takes place later in September. All Year 13 learners are required to attend and with over 120 universities in attendance, it is sure to be a fantastic learning opportunity!
Year 12 Parents and Guardians
To help with independent university research, all Year 12 learners have registered with the university research platform, Unifrog, where they can access a range of resources including psychometric assessments, a careers library, subject library as well as a huge amount of information about university courses and admissions requirements. This is also the platform that our secondary learners (Year 7-13) will use for PSHE lessons helping to streamline our programme throughout secondary school.
Next term, we will commence our Year 12 Careers and University Programme with a focus on topics that will help them as they set out on their journeys towards ‘Life After Nexus’. Each session takes a different focus and we will explore topics such as goal-setting, self-reflection and how to write stand-out college application essays. Sessions will also focus on admissions requirements and application processes pertaining to destinations all over the world such as the United States, UK, Canada, Japan, Singapore and Europe, to name but a few. Learners are reminded to check the Learner Bulletin every week to ensure that they are up-to-date with the latest information about online university fairs and events.
More information will be made available soon about the Lion City Fair - a university fair which takes place later in September. All Year 12 learners are expected to attend.

Dear Nexus Parents,
We are thrilled to kick off the new school year with exciting opportunities for our learners to step into leadership roles that empower them to make a difference in our school community. At Nexus, we believe in nurturing the leaders of tomorrow, and this year, we have a fantastic lineup of learner leadership roles available for your child to explore and excel in.
The Learner Council is at the heart of our learner leadership program. Learners elected to this council serve as the voice of their peers, helping to shape school policies and activities.
