Last Thursday we had the incredible opportunity to host three renowned professional triathletes, Ben Kanute, Gustav Iden and Chelsea Sodaro, who were visiting Singapore for the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) Asian Open at Marina Bay Sands last weekend. These legends, who between them hold an Olympic appearance the two Ironman World Champion titles, engaged in a lively Q&A session with our staff and learners, offering valuable insights into their training, nutrition and the growth mindsets that drive their success as professional endurance athletes.
A personalised 1-on-1 session was then held with our own Nexus triathletes Lachlan and Yuma, where they gained valuable tips from the pros on how to enhance their own performances. Inspired by this, Lachlan went on to take part in the PTO Asian Open 2023 Duathlon last Sunday, where he finished 5th overall and claimed 4th in the highly competitive 16-29 year old age group. Congratulations Lachlan, your skill and determination are inspirational!
Over 60 Secondary Learners volunteered to assist with duties such as marshalling and handing out water to the professional athletes during the PTO Asian Open triathlon races at Marina Bay Sands last weekend. This fantastic opportunity allowed them to learn new skills and get very close to the action. Well done to all of you and thank you for showing such enthusiasm!
We are thrilled to share with you the exciting highlights of Thursday's full-day workshop that our Year 9 learners participated in. This immersive experience marked the launch of their much-anticipated MYP Community Project, setting the stage for a journey of exploration, collaboration, and meaningful impact.
The workshop was led by the renowned educator, Cathy Berger Kaye, who brought her expertise and passion to guide our learners through a day of active and high-energy sessions. Cathy introduced our learners to the innovative MISO method of research, an engaging approach designed to ignite curiosity and critical thinking. Through a series of interactive activities, our learners learned how to effectively investigate and address issues in their local community.
One of the most exciting aspects of the workshop was the emphasis on collaboration. Our learners had the incredible opportunity to work alongside their peers, sharing ideas, insights, and perspectives. This collaborative environment not only fostered a sense of camaraderie but also enabled our students to harness the power of collective thinking.
The heart of the workshop was centered around cultivating a sense of inquiry. Cathy encouraged our learners to delve into local issues that they are passionate about. By asking thought-provoking questions and digging deep into the root causes of these issues, our learners were able to uncover potential avenues for creating sustainable change. This process of inquiry sparked a newfound enthusiasm for taking action and making a difference in their community.
Our learners are now equipped with the tools and mindset needed to embark on their Community project journeys with confidence. They are ready to identify community needs, develop action plans, and implement initiatives that will have a positive and lasting impact.
We are excited to witness the growth and development of our Year 9 learners as they take the lessons and inspiration from this workshop forward into their MYP Community Projects. The seeds of positive change have been planted, and we look forward to seeing the incredible initiatives that will bloom as a result.
Thank you for your ongoing support in nurturing our students' passion for learning, inquiry, and community engagement.
