Little Hawkeye Conference - Winter 2020

The Little Hawkeye Conference in which Newton competes has released an up to date set of guidelines pertaining to health practices and restrictions for planned winter athletic events. All conference schools will be abiding by these guidelines and the Newton school district intends to comply with these guidelines for all home athletic/activity events. These guidelines will be in place at least through Dec. 31st, 2020 at which time these practices will be reviewed and updated if deemed necessary.

For a Temporary School Closure

In the event that our district moves to fully remote learning, all school sponsored athletics and activities will cease during that period of time. This includes all scheduled in person practices, games and events. Coaches and sponsors can still meet with their students and student/athletes via Zoom or through other virtual channels and provide direction for their programs; however no in person activities will occur during the period of closure.

Football Stadium Spectator Protocol

Spectators attending high school or middle school football games for the 2020 football season will be required to wear a face covering upon entering HA Lynn Stadium. Once inside the stadium, spectators will be strongly encouraged to wear face coverings. In areas of the stadium where social distancing is not possible (i.e. student sections), face coverings will be required to be worn.

Students entering either the high school or middle school student sections WILL BE REQUIRED to wear face coverings. This policy will be enforced by school administration.

Remote Learner Eligibility

The Newton Community School District understands that during the time of this pandemic, families may have reservations and safety concerns as it pertains to sending their student back to an indoor learning environment with a large group of people. Therefore, at this time, it is the decision of the school district that any student who chooses to learn remotely WILL BE ALLOWED to participate in all extra-curricular activities that are currently offered by the Newton Community School District. This does not include any activities that will be requiring face to face meetings as part of a class (i.e. band). All remote learners choosing to participate in extra-curricular activities will be required to follow the same rules and regulations that apply to all students and student/athletes set forth by the district and the district activity coaches/sponsors.
