Learning Opportunities Outside NESD - Does NOT Count as High School Credit
Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship
https://saskapprenticeship.ca/what-is-apprenticeship/
Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship is a high school program that gives students in Grades 9-12 the opportunity to explore careers in the skilled trades through research and hands-on learning.
Through SYA, you’ll get a head start on career planning in the skilled trades. Upon completion, you’ll have a record of your achievements, trades contacts and real-world experience—things that will make the process of interviewing and finding an apprenticeship after graduation easier!
Complete all three levels and register as an apprentice in a designated trade within five years to receive the following benefits:
Waiver of registration fee (currently $200)*
No charge for Level 1 technical training tuition*
300 hours of trade-time credit*
*The SYA program may also be available to those who are not high school students. The financial waivers do not apply in those cases.
Financial Supports for Apprentices
Apprenticeship Completion Grant
A one-time taxable cash grant of $2000 for registered apprentices who complete their apprenticeship training and obtain their journeyperson certification
Apprentices who have completed an apprenticeship program in a Red Seal trade and earned journeyperson certification.

Comment from a student from Crossfield, Alberta:
“This program is something that I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to do! It was a brilliant experience to be able to look into leadership from a combined lens of student/school-based leadership, as well as leadership in the business/career-based world. Thank you so much to the amazing facilitators, who were quick to answer any questions I had, and were also very present in the Classroom stream.”
