Turtle Island - Suite of Truth and Reconciliation
Composed by Adrian Bourgeois
Adrian Bourgeois is a Music Education at Melfort & Unit Comprehensive Collegiate.
"I do a fair amount of compositing, and I recently completed this composition entitled Turtle Island. It is a composition of Truth and Reconciliation. Below is a link to the performance of the composition in Saskatoon in August by the North Saskatchewan Winds. The band is made up of professional musicians from the symphony and local Saskatoon Musicians. As well, I have a link to the program notes for the composition. The Indigenous Flute player in the 3 movement is Richard Dube, a great friend of mine and a world-renowned flute maker. He was personally asked to make the flute used to perform O Canada at the NBA All Star game in Toronto in 2017.
The trumpet part in the second movement has been adjusted since this recording, but I am proud of the overall concept of the composition and how well it was received by the musicians and the audience. Start the video at the 3 minute mark as the first 3 minutes is talking. "
