WELCOME TO GRADE 4!! EXPLORE THE SUBJECT TABS TO DISCOVER WHAT YOU ARE LEARNING THIS YEAR!!
In the last unit we discovered how important estimating is as a strategy to quickly check if your answer is reasonable when multiplying large numbers.
For the next three lessons we will be learning how to divide large numbers. You will find that being able to recall the multiplication a huge benefit when dividing numbers.
Remember that division is about sharing the total into equal groups.
NEW VOCABULARY: Quotient: The answer to a division fact.
Dividend: The total number (the greatest number in a division equation)
Divisor: The number you are dividing by or the number of equal groups you need
to make.
In this lesson you will be estimating quotients by thinking of multiplication facts that are closely related to the division equation.
Watch the videos below to help you learn more about how to use multiplication facts and multiples to help you estimate quotients.
Go to Google Classroom and complete the assignment called, Lesson 1: "Estimating Quotients" in the Classwork section under the Math: Division (1-Digit Divisor and up to 2-Digit Dividend) Unit.
Turn in the assignment for grading.
For extra practice work on learning about Multiplying go to IXL Math Grade 4 and work on the following: E.10 and E.11.
Sometimes when you share things equally there may an item or more left over. The number that cannot be shared equally is called the REMAINDER. In a division sentence the letter "R" stands for remainder.
In this lesson you will learn how to divide numbers that have remainders by drawing an array or using the nearest division or multiplication fact to find the quotient with a remainder.
Watch the video below to help you learn more about how to divide numbers that have a remainder.
Go to Google Classroom and complete the assignment called, Lesson 2: "Division with Remainders" in the Classwork section under the Math: Division (1-Digit Divisor and up to 2-Digit Dividend) Unit.
Turn in the assignment for grading.
For extra practice work on learning about Multiplying go to IXL Math Grade 4 and work on the following: E.4, E.5, E6 and E.7.
In the previous lesson we drew an array and thought of multiplication or division facts that were close to the division question.
In this lesson we will be drawing Base Ten Blocks and learning a popular method called "long division" to solve division problems with and without remainders.
Watch the videos below to help you learn more about strategies to help you divide numbers with or without remainders
Go to Google Classroom and complete the assignment called, Lesson 3: "Division Strategies" in the Classwork section under the Math: Division (1-Digit Divisor and up to 2-Digit Dividend) Unit.
Turn in the assignment for grading.
For extra practice work on learning about Multiplying go to IXL Math Grade 4 and work on the following: E.5, E.8, and E.9.
