WELCOME TO GRADE 4!! EXPLORE THE SUBJECT TABS TO DISCOVER WHAT YOU ARE LEARNING THIS YEAR!!
MATH TEXT: MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION
Multiplication is really repeated addition. One way to multiply two numbers is to draw an array. An array shows objects arranged in equal rows. To find the product (answer) to the multiplication equation 2 X 3, you could make an array of 2 rows of 3 XXX When you count the objects (x's) the total is 6. XXX
In this lesson you will be learning how to use doubles to multiply. Doubles are any number that you add to itself. (7 + 7 = 14)
Watch the video below to learn how to use doubling as a strategy to multiply.
Go to Google Classroom and complete the assignment called, Lesson 1: "Using Doubles to Multiply" in the Classwork section under the Math 3. Multiplication and Division Unit.
Turn in the assignment for grading.
For extra practice work on learning about graphs, go to IXL Math Grade 4 Number Sense Section and work on the following: D.1 to D.8.
In the last lesson you learned how drawing arrays and doubling are helpful strategies when multiplying two factors.
In this lesson you will be reviewing how learning the rules when multiplying by 1, by 0, and by 10 can also be helpful strategies when multiplying two factors.
Watch the two videos below that explains the rules to multiply a factor by 1, 0, and by 10.
Go to Google Classroom and complete the assignment called, Lesson 2: "Multiplying by 1, 0, and 10" in the Classwork section under the Math 3. Multiplication and Division Unit.

For extra practice work on learning about graphs, go to IXL Math Grade 4 Number Sense Section and work on the following: D.1 to D.8.
In the last lesson you learned how learning the rules to multiply numbers by 1, 0, and by 10 makes multiplying easier.
In this lesson you will how skip counting and using skip counting patterns can also help us multiply two factors.
Watch the two videos below that shows you how to skip count.
Go to Google Classroom and complete the assignment called, Lesson 3: "Using Skip Counting to Multiply" in the Classwork section under the Math 3. Multiplication and Division Unit.

For extra practice work on learning about graphs, go to IXL Math Grade 4 Number Sense Section and work on the following: D.1 to D.8.
In the last lesson you learned how skip counting can help you find the product of two factors. Learning how to quickly skip count is a great strategy to use if you are unsure of the product.
In this lesson you will learn different strategies to find the product when one factor is a 3, 6, 7, or 9. You will also be practicing halving and doubling when one of the factors is an even number.
Watch the videos below that shows you different strategies to multiply factors of 3,6,7 and 9.
Go to Google Classroom and complete the assignment called, Lesson 4: "Other Strategies for Multiplying" in the Classwork section under the Math 3. Multiplication and Division Unit.

For extra practice work on learning about graphs, go to IXL Math Grade 4 Number Sense Section and work on the following: D.1 to D.8.
For the past few lessons we have been learning strategies to multiply two factors if you are unsure of the product. Drawing arrays is one strategy but it takes a long time and it is easy to make mistakes.
In this lesson we will be using patterns in a multiplication chart to solve different multiplication problems.
One of the cool things about multiplication is that it has the COMMUTATIVE PROPERTY. The COMMUTATIVE PROPERTY is a math rule that says that the order in which we multiply numbers does not change the product. Therefore, the product of 3 X 4 is the same as 4 X 3.
Watch the videos below that explains how to use patterns in a multiplication chart to find products and also the commutative property of multiplication.

We have been learning about different strategies to multiply two factors. Memorizing the multiplication facts will help you understand math and make it a lot easier for you to answer math equations correctly.
For the next four lessons we will be learning about division and how multiplication is related to division.
In this lesson we will learn how to draw an array to show division.
Watch the videos below that explains how to draw an array to help us show division.
Go to Google Classroom and complete the assignment called, Lesson 6: "Using Arrays to Divide" in the Classwork section under the Math 3. Multiplication and Division Unit.
