In this lesson we will be beginning to explore our own identity and the importance of relationships.
Our identity is how someone is, behaves, looks, what they like or dislike, what’s special to them, what they participate in, etc.) and our ‘relationships’ are how we are connected or interact with another person or group. We will also be exploring why relationships are important, who you have them with, and the purpose of them.
You will be be creating an "All About Me" bag that has at least 5 items and will be creating a video that explains why each of the items are important and how each item is connected to your identity.

Watch the video comparing good friends to "toxic" friends. Toxic friends cause you a lot of pain or problems.
For this assignment you will be writing a friendly letter or making a video to a friend that explains what makes him or her a good friend. Make sure that you have at least 3 reasons that explains the qualities that makes him or her a good friend to you.

We have been discussing the basic characteristics of being a good friend in order to have positive relationships with our peers. Peers are people that are around the same age as us.
Once we understand what it means to be a good friend, we must then learn how we can develop peer relationships. Making friends and keeping them is something you can do by using different strategies. There are many different strategies that you can use to have peer relationships. Some are positive strategies, and others are negative strategies. Remember, a strategy is a method that you use to achieve a goal.
Watch the video below about how to make and to keep friends. Watch the video clip of Sheldon and Amy from the Big Bang Theory having a conversation. Take note of who is speaking, what they are talking about and whether the conversation is interesting to both people. Is Sheldon finding a common interest to talk about? Is he doing a good job of sharing the conversation?
You will be completing two activities. One activity will review the characteristics that you have to bring to a peer relationship and what characteristics you are looking for in a friend. The second activity will be teaching you two strategies to help you make new friends.

Learning how to start a conversation is an important social skill that helps us know what to say in different situations.
With strong communication skills, young people can more easily build friendships, get along with others, work collaboratively in groups and even handle frustrations.
This lesson focuses on starting a conversation, finding things in common with others to help our communication, and keeping a conversation going with peers.

When it comes to healthy relationships, communication is extremely important. In the last two lessons you learned different strategies to start and maintain a conversation.
When people get along well with each other, it shows. Arguments and disagreements are bound to happen in any relationship, but they don't necessarily have to end with a "winner" and a "loser".
In this lesson you will identify and develop tolerance and appreciation for similarities and differences among your peers as well as learn the importance of considering another person's perspective.

Think about a disagreement, argument or fight you've had with someone. How did that conflict end? How did the problem make you feel from the beginning to the end? Conflicts like arguments can make you angry and frustrated, but conflicts aren't always such bad things.
In this lesson we will be thinking about how having disagreements and arguments can be helpful sometimes. We will be also discussing how listening can be an important part of conflict resolution and why it is important to talk and not to keep your feelings inside to yourself.
