Health Careers Academy
What is the Health Careers Academy?
The Health Careers Academy is a program developed as a partnership between local health care facilities, Fox Valley Health Care Alliance and Neenah High School. The Academy will provide an enriching opportunity for students to discover and foster interests in clinical and non-clinical health care careers.
Why Become an Academy Student?
Students accepted into the Academy will have unique classroom experiences and special access to local hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities.
More specifically students:
Will develop individual interests in specific areas of study.
Will learn about a wide variety of career opportunities.
Will develop a special relationship with teachers, professionals, and students with similar interests.
Will job shadow health care professionals.
Will participate in enrichment experiences such as field trips, internships, guest speaker programs, summer camps and site visits.
Will apply classroom learning to healthcare experiences.
Will meet health care workers from many fields.
Will develop individual interests in specific areas.
Will benefit from a learning environment with students who share a common interest.
Will receive a special academy certificate and special recognition at graduation.
Will receive a letter from the Academy for work or school recommendation.
Benefits:
Students at Neenah High School can benefit from the Health Careers Academy by having more focused learning opportunities and additional career planning assistance.
Students will be able to choose a plan of study that prepares them to go from high school:
to work
to technical college
to college or university
The community of Neenah will benefit by developing future health care leaders and recruiting and retaining a highly skilled and caring workforce.
Requirements:
Complete 15 hours of volunteer service per year.
Be enrolled in the Health Careers 1 class; the application process occurs in this course.
Have earned a minimum 2.0 Cumulative G.P.A. if they will be entering the workforce directly after high school.
Have earned a minimum 3.0 Cumulative G.P.A. if they plan to continue their education at a two-year or four-year school after graduation from high school.
Have a 90% or higher cumulative attendance rate.
Have earned at least 5.5 credits after completion of grade 9, 12 credits after grade 10, and 18 credits after grade 11.
