The College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources has a tradition of excellence in educating students for real-world careers. As a student-focused, land-grant, research university, we offer students hands-on learning experiences that will allow them to be competitive in a global economy.
Agribusiness / Agricultural Economics / Economics Programs
These programs are located at our downtown campus and combine agriculture, economics, and business areas.
Agricultural Education
Agricultural Education can prepare students for several careers, including high school teaching, extension education, and 4H youth development.
Animal Science
NDSU has 11 animal facilities on campus, including beef, dairy, equine, sheep, and swine.
Biotechnology
Laboratory facilities are used for instruction and research. These include animal and plant tissue culture facilities, small animal housing, electron microscopes, automated DNA sequencing equipment.
Crop and Weed Sciences
Students have the opportunity to work in the on-campus greenhouses for hands-on experience.
Equine Science
Students may choose to either bring their own horse or choose to work with horses who already live at NDSU.
Family & Consumer Sciences Education
FACS Education majors can take one of two pathways: 1) teacher licensure which prepares students to teach in a middle or high school setting, or 2) training and education which prepares students to work in nutrition education, healthcare centers, Extension, youth education, and non-profit organizations.Â
Food Science
Students will have access to the newest building on campus (the Peltier Complex) which will house food, cereal, and meat labs.
Horticulture & Urban Agriculture
The Horticulture & Forestry Club is open to any students interested in plants. They host plan sales through the year.
Microbiology
One current research area is finding ways to get plants to produce their own nitrogen, requiring less plant fertilizer.
Natural Resources Management
As part of its Entomology graduate program, NRM has an insect/bug display on the 2nd floor of Hultz Hall.
Precision Agriculture Technology & Management
One of the components of this program is using drones to map out farmland.
Veterinary Technology
Granted permission through NDSU to work hands-on with live animals for experience.
