Gas Distribution

The GRAND experiment requires a combination of 80% argon and 20% carbon dioxide gas. This mixture of gas is held in eight gas cylinders pressurized to 2600 PSI. These cylinders can be seen in the middle of the trailer in the photo above. The gas is crucial for the experiment to work properly, so the temperature and quantity of these cylinders are monitored constantly through an online diagnostic system.

Gas Tank Regulator Valves that control the gas output to the huts:

Inside the distribution boxes (NW, SW, SE) there are gas flow splitters:

The gas is split once more before it gets to a hut.

Gas Splitter in Quad Box:

Gas Leak Detector: A wire inside measures the change in electrical resistance caused by a new gas. A beep is used to indicate the rate of the new gas, faster = more.
