Volunteer work with Building Connections
Study abroad and Traveling
I continued to volunteer at Building Connections, an organization that focuses on helping children ages 3-21 who have problems with social skills and developing relationships due to Autism or similar diagnoses. I assist the teachers and accompany the children and teens on community outings designed to improve emotional awareness and regulation, communication, cognitive functioning, and more. This volunteer work has undoubtedly taught me a lot about inclusion and strengthened my awareness of self, specifically my appreciation for others who are different from me but no less important.
Studying in Copenhagen Fall semester 2023 was one of the most moving experiences in my life. I am thankful that I could see so many beautiful places, learn the practices of other countries, and make lifelong friends along the way. By immersing myself in vastly different cultures from America, I gained new global perspectives that broadened my mind. By studying at a foreign university, I communicated with students from all over the world. I visited all the Scandinavian countries and explored parts of Europe. The exposure to diverse ideas and new ways of thinking has contributed to my cultural awareness. In today's global landscape, the value of my overseas study experience is paramount. It plays a crucial role in our understanding and pursuit of fostering equity, inclusion, and empathetic understanding across diverse cultures.
