Project Background and Need:
I drive an EV with a limited towing capacity and in the EU there's a rising focus on weight limits for trailers for personal use. Can we create a simple device that allows drivers to estimate the weight of their trailer and avoid running illegally?
Problem Description/requirements (List of high-level functionality you expect to see in the end product):
I want a simple robust device that can be attached by magnet to the trailer. On board the device is an ESP32 that in real time uses natural fequency analysis to estimate the trailer mass and display this mass through an app on the users phone. In an ideal mature state, the device would be waterproof and capable of being driven over - ie physically robust.
Required Skills / Desired Competencies (in order of importance):
Ability to do efficient real time frequency domain analysis
Embedded hardware and programming
Wireless communications
Programming experience
Mobile app development
PCB design and layout
Power electronics and systems
Analog circuit design
Robotics/mechatronics
MATLAB and Simulink
How often and how would you be available to meet/chat with the team (Zoom, Hangout, Skype, Phone)?
Weekly over Zoom. Ad hoc meetings also not a problem.
Will the students be required to sign any of the following before they start with the project? NDA / CDA / IP assignment / IP protection form
NDA will need to be signed.
