Background of Company:
IBM Center for Advance Studies collaborates with academic projects. The Department of Biomaterials works with smart manufacturing and building skills for Industry 4.0.
Project Background and Need:
Smart Manufacturing (SM) technologies can be used to streamline complex manufacturing systems and processes by allowing devices, sensors, and controls to share information with one another, bringing intelligence to the operation of manufacturing systems. A true integration of SM technologies in a bio-based economy will give the US a competitive edge in the global economy by delivering smart multi-dimensional low-cost, sustainable, and renewable material solutions.
Problem Description/requirements (List of high-level functionality you expect to see in the end product):
We envision transitioning our Biomaterials Manufacturing Pilot facility to a smart multi-dimensional and modular machine infrastructure equipped with advanced sensors, data analytics, and machine learning/artificial intelligence, which will harness unprecedented levels of real-time production data for sustainable bioproducts research and immersive learning across classrooms from early to higher education. All this combined can deliver a digital twin (virtual model) which accurately reflects the physical machines.
Required Skills / Desired Competencies (in order of importance):
Programming experience (cloud and IoT platforms development)
Wireless communications programming
Computer networking
Embedded hardware and programming
How often and how would you be available to meet/chat with the team (Zoom, Hangout, Skype, Phone)?
Webex/Zoom, in person starting 9/7/2021
Will the students be required to sign any of the following before they start with the project? NDA / CDA / IP assignment / IP protection form
No.
