Project Background and Need:
Wind-generated noise dominates the background for infrasound sensors. Previous research has focused on large noise suppression approaches. Failure to solve this problems limits the use of infrasound for volcano and conservation research.
Problem Description/requirements (List of high-level functionality you expect to see in the end product):
Seeking a hybrid physical and adaptive electronic noise suppression approach for infrasound sensors. Our minimum goal is a 6 dB reduction in noise with a desired goal of over a 12 dB reduction. The passive approach can build on an ECE senior design project from 2019-2020. As a minimum, the adaptive electronic noise suppression approach should focus on the use of meteorological and seismic sensors to independently estimate the wind-generated noise and adaptively remove it from the infrasound data.
