The only step required before showing a movie in the classroom is to use the search tool on our website verifying the title is covered: https://www.swank.com/k-12-schools/customer-hub/browse-movies
The search is in the upper right corner, just click to open. Enter the title and if it comes up in a search you can show it inside your licensed schools using any legitimate copy (DVD, streaming, digital purchase, etc).
Also, we currently have an outdoor showing exception included with the annual site license through 12/31/2022:
Your school must have an active site license in order to qualify for the outdoor showing exception.
Events must take place on school property with a maximum of 200 attendees.
A request form must be filled out prior to each event: https://www.swank.com/k-12-schools/outdoor/ (located at the bottom of the page).
If the movie is already in the NCLUSD library, you can show the video to your whole class or if it's a class assignment, you can send students a link to watch independently.
Remember, you cannot stream to your interactive panel. The streaming software does not allow streaming to the panel. You must use an HDMI cable to connect your laptop directly to the panel.
Additional instructions and information is provided in the SWANK Streaming Teacher Guide below:
The district has immediate access to over 200 titles in the library. If the video is not in the library, you can request it to be added to the library. If you search for a video and it does not show up at all, that means the video is not available on the Streaming Platform. You may search for the movie in the licensing section of Swank to check if it's licensed to be shown in a classroom setting. If it is, you can show the video using another method.
If you request a movie, it will go through the approval process. Please explain why you are showing the movie and how it ties to your curriculum. Videos will be approved within 1-2 days; please plan ahead to give us time to approve. Remember, this just adds the video to the library. This does not approve the movie with your administrator. Please check with your administrator for the video approval process at your site. Also, please follow district guidelines regarding parent permission. Only G Rated movies are allowed without parent permission. All others require you to get a parent permission form signed for the student to see the movie.
The TA will help you find movies that will work with your lessons.
