We have studied addition and subtraction within 20. It is expected that addition and subtraction within 10 are mastered. Please practice regularly at home:) Mastery means student are answering equations in less than 3 seconds. Once your child can do this, please practice the math facts within 20.

Please scroll down on the website and click on first grade. Then click on math. The problems under “Q. addition up to 20” are good practice. Also “J. Subtraction up to 10” is good practice. Anything else on the page with addition / subtraction is recommended for additional practice.

Ten frame flashcards:
Show a card to your child and have them tell you the number of dots. Then ask how many more dots are needed to make ( a number higher than what is shown - up to ten) Example: Show your child the card with 2 dots and have him tell you the number. Then, ask your child to tell you how many more dots are needed to make 4, 5, 6, 7, etc.
Number cards - Use the cards up to 10 until your child has mastered these before moving on to 20.

Mix up the cards and have your child put them in the correct order. Have your child match the number cards with the 10-frame cards.
