Volunteering for Reading Partner Time
We love having volunteers for reading as it is so helpful for each student to get more individual reading time and adult support. We are very thankful for your time:) Volunteer slots are Tues, Wed & Thurs 2:25 - 2:50
Please note that we will likely be finishing up with literacy when you enter. Come on in and Mrs. Whitt will fill you in on the plan for reading time.

As a reading volunteer, you may be assigned to one of two roles when you arrive to the classroom.
Sitting with one reading pair to help each student sound out words and monitor for fluency and accuracy. These students are still struggling at times to read basic one syllable words. Each student will read a page to you as they alternate between pages of the same book. Please have a student reread the page for fluency if they are sounding out some words. When the students have read their book, initial their book page and have them choose a new book in the same set.
Circulating around the room to check that pairs at the desks / on rug are reading to each other and paying attention to their partners as they read. Students will raise their hands if they get stuck on a word. When students have read their book, they will raise their hand for an adult to check them off, so they can get a new book. Volunteers will have a form to track who is being checked off as they go around to the different pairs of students.
Note: Students reading chapter books will complete a book report form beginning in week 19 (Week of Jan19th). After you listen to them read their pages to you, please tell them to get a form, complete it and then turn it in. We will have a designated, labeled spot to turn the forms in.
