Week 8: 10/12 - 10/14

Math: Subtraction within 10

• Note: It is absolutely essential that students know their math facts within 10 in order to be able to tackle subtraction within 10. Please continue to practice at home.

• Subtraction as taking away and subtraction as taking apart. See the example below for the latter:

Example: There are 7 apples. 4 apples are read. 3 apples are blue. Write a equation for finding the 4 red sharpeners --> 7-3=4

Literacy : Following the Literacy Essentials Program

• Practicing our spelling words for the master test on Wednesday

• Review of phonograms and spellig rules: adding -ed past tense ending to words endig with e - hike--> hiked    vs. those that just add -ed: check --> checked  

• 1:1:1 rule : words with one syllable, a single vowel followed by one consonant: double the consonant before adding -ed:   hop --> hopped

Discovery Studies:

Literature : Read aloud stories to include:

• Read the last chapter in Lion, Witch and Wardrobe

• Cinderella and its various versions from different countries

• Note: Start Pinocchio next week

History 

• Continue  Mesopotamia - land between 2 rivers - Test on Wed.

Science: 

• Continue Light and Sound - sound vibrations
