Week 25 (March 2-6)

Literacy; (Following the Literacy Essentials program out of Hillsdale College)  - Note: Please see my Literacy Essentials page for more information on this read-to-write program to know why we do not send spelling lists home.

• Writing Project -  We will wrap up the writing project and assemble our binders.

• More new words  from List J

• Practice  spelling Test List I on Fri.

• Reading List H: Practice with partners and at home for fluency - Reading List H was sent home on Friday 2/27

• Review grammar & spelling rules already taught:

• Reading - leveled readers / chapter books

Math:

• Chapter 13 Test  - Addition and Subtraction within 40.

• Chapter 14: Grouping and Sharing (to help prepare for multiplication in 2nd grade)

Example: Students are shown a picture of 3 groups of crayons with 4 crayons in each group -> 4+4+4 = 12

Note: Math facts to 20 are very important for this lesson and many upcoming ones. Please continue to practice math facts at home. 

Discovery Studies: 

• History: Early Explorers and Settlers 

• Science: Plant and Animal survival . We will be planting seeds in the next week or so. Please send in a small glass jar for this project (yogurt or small jam jars are perfect)  Thank you!

• Literature:  Fables / Fairy Tales / February Poems // The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White / Beatrix Potter tales / Winnie the Pooh stories
